On the Camino hostels are called Albergues.
This is where we are tonight (Tuesday Oct 1).
We are in the middle of farm country.
There are many types of Albergues:
= Municipal - run by the community. 7 to 10 €
= Parish - run by the church. Make a donation
= Private - run as a business. 10 - 15 €. Private albergued also allow you to book ahead one day before you arrive . This is a big deal as albergues fill up quickly after 12:00.
There are also pensions. They provide a private rooms with a shared bathroom.
Most Albergues offer a pilgrim supper for about 7 to 10€. They are fantastic three courses meals where most guests sit at large tables. My favorite part of the Camino is having supper with stranger from all over the world . Albergues usually have a large kitchen where you can prepare your own meal. It's pretty cool if you don't use all your food you simply leave it for tomorrow's guests.
I was talking to an owner yesterday and he said September was the busiest month on the Camino in years. Funny thing in the 1500 and 1600 hundreds the Camino was busier than it is now.
